Conrad
This adventure tale by Joseph Conrad (of Polish name Jósef Teodor Konrad Nalecz) is an account of Charles Marlow's journey to Africa, where he meets with corruption and folly. Europeans seeking to establish a foothold on the continent foolishly conspire against each other. He takes a steamboat up a river, but the boat is ambushed by natives. Surviving, Marlow meets Mr. Kurtz, a European seduced by Black culture. The story is both gritty and surreal, and quite busy.
